On This #911Day.....

Today is Friday 9/11.   Fourteen years ago today the horrible day occurred that changed America and the World forever.   It is a day to remember and reflect on this Patriots Day as we are here throughout #Outsiders.

Our team's tradition to share the Friday Musical Interlude is dedicated to America Today as we chose David Lanz' Redition of America for this day as we also feature the call to action from the Team at 9/11 Day & Good Deeds.       We also join US Senator Kristen Gillibrand of New York as she is spearheading efforts to ensure that all the first responders are taken care of.

This call to action was telling as we should heed the voice of the young who were born on this day:

Please watch this 30 second message from one child born on 9/11.

What to do this 9/11.

Today we remember the victims and heroes of 9/11 by doing good deeds.

Any good deed counts. Be kind to others. Put aside differences, and think of ways to help others. Remember the spirit of unity we all shared right after 9/11. Take Hillary's video message to heart.

Please also share your good deed plans with others:

  • Visit 911day.org and post your good deed on our site. (You’ll need Facebook)
  • Go to Twitter and tweet your 9/11 good deed. Tag us @911day and use #911day.
  • Share on your Facebook or Instagram page, tag us @911day and use #911day.
Tag your friends and urge them to do good deeds, too. You can also join our Facebook orTwitter pages. Read what others are sharing.

On this solemn and important 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, we dedicate our thoughts, our prayers, and our good deeds to those who lost their lives or were injured, to their families, and to the many who bravely rose in service in response to the attacks.

Tragedy wasn’t the only thing born on 9/11. Hope was born too.

We wish you peace on this day.

We close this with this David Lantz Tribute to America as we also note this from President Ronald Reagan:

On the Eve of 9/11: A "Call to Action" To Make a Difference

It is the eve of 9/11.   Our team will be attending a 9/11 remembrance event and then participating in a fundraiser to support the activities of the City of Laguna Niguel Military Support Committee.   Our team first reported on this earlier in the #Outsider Community Channel late last month.

The folks at Causecast put together this call to action which we also wanted to feature here in line with the ultimate mission of this digital channel to help transform the conversation  in creating the ultimate vision of the possible.   We hope all will be able to do so:

An #Outsider Newsflash: A Progress Report on Kickstarter Campaigns we've backed

We had the pleasure to back this campaign and wanted to report on the latest we received over the labor day weekend as  Ai Weiwei is in London and the latest on the Bevel.

We can't wait to feature the images here in #Outsiders soon as we eagerly await the receipt and testing of the Bevel:

Welcome to London, Ai Weiwei!
Posted by Royal Academy of Arts
Our galleries and courtyard are a hive of activity this week, with the exhibition's opening date less than two weeks away. Yesterday the artist himself arrived in London from Germany, and posted this lovely shot of 'Tree' being installed in the courtyard on his Instagram:

Dev Diaries No.2: Point tracking in real time
Posted by Matter And Form Inc.
So, I thought I'd go out on a limb this time and try something different by doing a video update for the dev team diaries.
You might think this is totally awesome, but you also might think this is a total fail. I want to find a way to make these updates more like a conversation that we can have together. I'd love to include you in the process of writing the app and making the Bevel as much as I can, so that's kind of what this is I guess. Mind you, I am no video editor so please excuse the unflattering view up my nose.
Anyway, I hope you like it and I hope you tell me what you think in the comments below.
- Drew

View of the Week: The Dash By Linda Ellis

For this edition of "View of the Week", our team settled on this courtesy of the team @ Simple Truths which we hope all enjoy:

The Dash
by Linda Ellis

I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
from the beginning…to the end.

He noted that first came the date of her birth
and spoke of the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time
that she spent alive on earth
and now only those who loved her
know what that little line is worth.

For it matter not, how much we own,
the cars…the house…the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard;
are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
to consider what’s true and real
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect
and more often wear a smile…
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.

So when your eulogy is being read
with your life’s actions to rehash,
would you be proud of the things they say
about how you spent your dash?

Notations From the Grid (weekend edition): On the latest from @NASA

The work to transform and create the ultimate vision of the possible is never ending--even on a weekend.   We were just amazed as we reviewed it and released it to our Twitter Feed earlier today:

With what they have been able to do so far, this is not far out of the realm of the possible.

It is so much fun to be witness to such transformation.

The Friday Musical Interlude: Marc Antoine Performs

It is Friday here in #Outsiders and yet again time for the Friday Musical Interlude.    We hope all enjoy this selection from our artist of the week, Marc Antoine.

We will be "dark" throughout #Outsiders on this labor day week-end and wish all in the United States a joyous and restful one as the formal end of summer is at hand and fall begins:

On The "Virtual Road" w President Obama in Alaska

Our team was on the "Virtual Road" with President Obama as he was traveling up in Alaska.    It was quite riveting as he used a Selfie to report to the World on his tour which was on Instagram as he reminded the World, "..This is worth preserving":

He then went up to one of the villages at the forefront of the War on Climate Change and reflected upon this wake-up call:

Our team could not agree more as it listened to the President and also tracked the predicament of Kotezbue and other communities on the frontlines of climate change.

Thought(s) For the Week: On Cooperation

Our team has been working away on the daily curation over the "Grid" as we just released an update on the #IranDeal earlier.

We wanted to release this "Thought 4 the Week" though to underscore a sense of purpose at the heart of creating the ultimate Vision of the Possible for all as underscored by our "must read" here @ Outsiders from +Jonathan Huie :

Competition has been shown to be useful
up to a certain point and no further,
but cooperation, which is the thing
we must strive for today,
begins where competition leaves off.
- Franklin D. Roosevelt

Though force can protect in emergency,
finally lead men to the dawn of eternal peace.
- Dwight D. Eisenhower

If you can laugh together, you can work together.

On this First Day of the Month....

Our team has hit the ground running and finished the latest "Notations".    It was quite a challenging morning with the economic, political and on-going social fissures the World continues to be faced with daily.

What we received at our Virtual Studios from +Jonathan Huie underscored a need to stay focused and hopeful ever more which we wanted to share on this first day of the new month:

There is no passion to be found playing small -
in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.
- Nelson Mandela

The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams.
- Oprah Winfrey

Face your fears and doubts, and new worlds will open to you.
- Robert Kiyosaki

As we finished our editorial meeting and worked on plans for September, we could not agree more as our own perilous journey to build #Outsiders ensues to build the "Vision of the POssible..." .

Notations From the Grid: As August 2015 comes to a close....

Our team was on the "prowl" tending to the twitter curation as it sent forth this Tweet earlier:

It underscores the desire that one must never ever give up in the quest to achieve "A Vision of the Possible".

Notations For the weekend: Brief Reflections w/a special "treat" to remember to "Keep it Going":

Whenever one launches a start-up, it is a 7x24 affair.     Our team is having loads of fun but continues to think through and assess what can be within the realm of the possible.   One thing our team underscored during its' daily review was this:  we've got to keep moving.   In that spirit, this underscored our determination which we are adopting as our "theme" for #outsiders w/this special edition of the "Musical Interlude":

Notations For the Week-End: On Success & Problems

On this #outsider weekend, we continue to reflect upon our mission daily as our curation and development of Outsiders continues.    For all to be aware of the "Vision of the Possible", it entails learning and embracing those who have succeeded.   This one we received earlier this morning during our weekend roundup drives home the question about the keys to success:

View of the Week: Aspirations By Ordinary Faces

We here @ #Outsiders have been dedicated to create a broad view of our World.    One fascinating event  we've been assessing is the #YouStink movement in Lebanon.   This grew out of the frustration the people have had with the paralysis of the Government and the general sense of corruption out there.   Our founder shared this earlier as he was supporting our on-going daily projects:

Creating a vision of the possible happens around us.  The people of Lebanon have risen to think about a day after tomorrow--as have the people in Guatemala which we hope to feature in #outsiders soon.

Notations From the Grid: On Leadership & Other Thoughts.....

The past week has been quite challenging in our World with the carnage in the markets.   We have been noting this in our Twitter Feed throughout the week.    There seems to be some stability out there.

During such uncertain times, leadership matters even more so.   Apple CEO, Tim Cook, sent out a 5 AM email to CNBC's Jim Cramer to help mitigate some concerns.    It underscored one simple fact about leadership that Fortune had noted in this Tweet that we wanted to note for this edition of "Notations" :

Notations On Our World: An #outsider Newsflash On The Art of the Possible

Our Founder was working away as he released this in support of us for us earlier on Sunday on his personal Twitter feed:

We find it amazing that this is being developed as an alternative to power.  The idea of not having to worry about recharging one's phone is absolutely enticing beyond words.

More to come......

Notations For the weekend: On SecondLife & Other Thoughts

It is the weekend here in Outsiders.     We continue to be fascinated with the our World ever more.    As we deliberate today, share updates in our daily Twitter Feed, we also have a eye to the future.   This channel's mission has been part of it.   One of the tools "on the grid' has been Second Life.

We have recently taken an interest to assess Second Life after our Founder initially got acclimated with it.    It has not been as "prevalent" now and it is considered more of a "niche".   One thing we do continue to note is that this venture is backed by Pierre Omidyar of the eBay fame who also has gone on now to launch the Intercept.     Our team was out in "Second Life" recently:

It is also of note to be reminded about the "why" one is here as our team selected this for all to enjoy as our #outsider journey continues which our team was quite moved by:

“May I be the doctor and the medicine
And may I be the nurse
For all sick beings in the world
Until everyone is healed.
May a rain of food and drink descend
To clear away the pain of thirst and hunger
And during the aeon of famine
May I myself change into food and drink.
May I become an inexhaustible treasure
For those who are poor and destitute;
May I turn into all things they could need
And may these be placed close beside them….
May I be protector for those without one,
A guide for all travelers on the way;
May I be a bridge, a boat and a ship
For all who wish to cross the water.
May I be an island for those who seek one,
And a lamp for those desiring light,
May I be a bed for all who wish to rest,
And a servant for those needing serivce.”
~ Shantideva
