Notations On Our World: On National Service in the United States

We wanted to dedicate this week here throughout all of our properties here at the Daily Outsider  Outsiders to National Service as President Trump's Budget blueprint has called for the elimination of the Corporation For National Service that spearheads National Service Throughout the United States and The World.    It is the primary Federal Agency responsible for innovative ideas like that President's National Service Award that has been at the forefront of elevating Civic Engagement.   Our team has also been witness to AmeriCorp Fellows being placed at Non-Profits throughout the United States including right here in Orange County California at leading Non- Profits including one organization we have supported-Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.   It underscores what was noted by the Corporation for National Service (as we are honored to join #Mayor4Service#County4Service, or #Tribe4Service )  as we hope that this will prompt the Administration to seriously reconsider its' elimination.

Notations On Our World (Special Edition): On Net Neutrality

As a new quarter dawns, it is of note how the United States has been witness to change due to the rules being enacted by the Trump Administration.  As privacy rules have been rolled back, the Trump Administration has set its sights on rolling back guidelines on Net Neutrality.   Our team dug this up from our archives courtesy of the Washington Post that all must take note of:

As We Go "Dark" To Prepare For the Second Quarter.....

As noted in our home site earlier, Today is a sad day in our World as the number of Syrian Refugees has passed 5 Million registered with the UN.  This is as an estimated 6 Million Refugees have been internally displaced.
As we finish off a very busy Quarter and gear up for the new Quarter of Engagements here in the Daily Outsider, we wanted to finish the Quarter with two Thoughts from Ahmad Kathrada who passed away and whose words resonate ever more:

We look forward to continue our on-going engagement with the Community during the upcoming Quarter.

Notations From the Grid (Alpah W-End Edition): On The Media & The Future

We are pleased to relaunch our "Notations" for this "Alpha" of our Visions Channel as our transformation continues.

We have seen further transformation in the Media Space.   Our "headlines from last year about how things have changed as they have.  One thing that has occured in the United States is the renewed vibrancy in the Media as the New York Times has enjoyed a resurrection, the Washington Post under Jeff Bezos' ownership is profitable, Cable News has begun to be more aggressive and alternative media (Such as Ozy Media) are gaining traction along with +Vox (that has continued to see investments from the likes of Comcast).     Here are some of the key headlines from one year ago along with the interesting charts on the changing demographics-it must be noted that Since the chart was published, the power of NetFlix and Amazon has grown by leaps and bounds:
  • The Telegraph Group in the UK For Sale (Bought the titles from Hollinger for over 665 Million Pounds)
  • "Patch" is back"--profitable w/70 Editors
  • On Net Netraility (The New Regime in Washington Changing the Game)
  • IndependencT goes digital....
  • Comcast Buying Fandago from Time Warner
  • Yahoo Shooting Down Vertials....
  • Al Jazeera America Shutting down....

This chart should terrify the cable TV industry

Cable TV is still how most of us get our video, but that is starting to change, and the younger generations are leading the way.

A Blast From the Past: On Smart homes & Other Thoughts....

Our team first ran across these two concepts last year as the iOT transformation was gaining traction.  Here are some "Food For Thought" as the adoption has gathered pace in a major way:

Notations From the Grid: On the State of the #Unicorns....

One of the number of initiatives we assess on a daily basis is the so-called "Unicorns Club" that have been at the forefront of interesting ideas to help create the ultimate "Vision of the Possible".   However, one of the Unicorns has run into some challenges as noted in this newsflash we received courtesy of IndustryWeek:

Theranos Tests Miss the Mark in New Study

The study will likely add to scrutiny of the medical testing disruptor, founded by entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes.

Theranos has struggled to regain credibility ever since the Wall Street Journal published a series of articles questioning its 'finger prick' lab tests.

We will be assessing the state of the Unicorns here in #Visions over the ensuing weeks and months.

On This Easter Week-End....

We were moved by the message of hope that the Holy Father underscored.   Tomorrow is Easter Sunday here in the United States.     As we all remember and remain hopeful despite the challenges, we thought that this from John Maxwell was so appropriate for us to underscore as we all strive to create the Vision of the Possible.

Happy Easter to All!!!
