We here @ #Outsiders have just received another update from one of kickstarter-backed projects and wanted to share this update with all. We will continue to keep all informed:
This week I want to show you the progress we’ve made so far on Bevel’s industrial design. Be warned, I’m about to completely geek out about things like enclosures and form factors.
Now, Bevel’s design has been evolving from the very start (even during our kickstarter campaign). If you’re the sort of person who pays particular attention to detail, you might have noticed two different Bevels floating around our campaign page. One had pronounced angles and the other had a more rounded look.
These were the very first iterations of Bevel’s industrial design.
When we successfully reached our funding goal and we knew Bevel was a go, we dove right into product and app development. As it happens, our team has a couple very good friends who are also the founders of a little design house calledPeak Design Co.
Meet Scott and Heather, the industrial designers of Bevel:
The first thing they did was put together a few concepts for us to consider. We knew we wanted to make Bevel as small and sleek as we could. They came back to us with the collection below, and asked us to pick one:
I really liked option A because the clip was integrated into the rest of the enclosure, but that presented flexibility issues. If we went with a single piece for the clip, instead of a separate assembly, we wouldn’t be able to manufacture the Bevel in brushed aluminium, which would be an issue. So in the end we decided to go with something close to option B but with a few revisions for style and mechanics.
It’s still very open to revisions, but here’s what we’re working with right now:
The best part is, since it’s much smaller than our original design, we were able to reduce the size of the boards as well. And trust me, they are small.
Check out this bad boy:
(It’s really tiny, about the size of a quarter and just so slick)
So at this point we’ve got a couple of assembled boards and we’ve 3D printed the new industrial design. Now we’re just putting everything together to verify tolerance, fit, and make sure everything is mechanically sound. So far so good! We're really close to being finished and that feels great.
Once we’ve finalized the Bevel’s industrial design once and for all we can start sourcing components and manufacturing the tooling we’re going to use to make your Bevels.
First production run here we come! We're thinking that we'll be making tooling in in November, which means we're pretty much on schedule right now. Of course, that could change any day and if it does we promised to tell you immediately.
I’d love to hear any and all feedback from you folks. What do you think about the Bevel’s new look? Please leave us comments or message us anytime!
Our next Dev Team Diary will probably be about the Bevel app again, since things are grinding away there as well.
Until next time,
Drew

The Friday Musical Interlude: Michael Jackson's "Heal the World"
As it is time for the Friday Musical Interlude here in #Outsiders, we hope all enjoy this from our artist of the Week, Michael Jackson as he reminds us all to "Heal the World"--especially as we are witness to the profound challenges our World faces today:
On the Prowl w/Thought(s) 4 the Week
As our team works away, our team decided to choose this selection of thoughts from +Jonathan Huie:
Learning how to be still, to really be still and let life happen -
that stillness becomes a radiance.
- Morgan Freeman
To know the whole world is nothing
when it is compared to knowing your own inner mystery of life. - Osho

Notations From the Grid: An #Outsider newsflash as @Jack makes it happen For his team!!!
We congratulate +Jack Dorsey on this expression of faith, confidence and leadership as he works to transform Twitter:
JACK DORSEY GIVES A THIRD OF TWITTER STAKE TO EMPLOYEES Jack Dorsey, the chief executive of Twitter and Square, announced that he would donate a third of his stake in Twitter to the employee stock compensation pool, Vindu Goel reports in the Bits blog. The stake is worth close to $200 million.
"I'd rather have a smaller part of something big than a bigger part of something small," he wrote on Twitter. "I'm confident we can make Twitter big!"
No employee is given stock directly as a result, but it makes more shares available for grants and could prop up morale at the company, which took a hit after he laid off 8 percent of the work force.
Mr. Dorsey's move comes after his disclosure in Square's paperwork for an initial public offering that he would donate 40 million shares of that company, or 10 percent of the total stock outstanding, to the Start Small Foundation.
Those shares, on top of the 15 million he had already donated, are to be sold to Square customers to raise money for artists, musicians and local businesses.

Notations On Our World: #BackToTheFutureDay is Today!!!!
Today is "Back to the future Day". Our team received this yesterday from the White House which we wanted to feature on--it should be a fun one as a lot of things on that day when the movie came out they got rightr!!!
We hope all join this day of "Fun" and do try and "Hang out" with the White House!!!
Tomorrow is Back to the Future Day: Great Scott! Tomorrow marks an important day in American history (or, at least, in American cinematic history): It's the date to which Marty McFly traveled into the "future" in Back to the Future Part II. We've come a long way in the 30 years that have passed since the original Back to the Future came out. We're going to spend tomorrow talking about where we're going in the next 30. Tomorrow, we'll host a series of conversations with scientists and innovators across the government and the country. You'll be able to ask them questions, watch videos explaining their cutting-edge developments, and share your answer to a simple question we'll be asking people all day long: What does 2045 look like? Take a look at the schedule, get your questions ready, and follow along all day long at WhiteHouse.gov/Back-To-The- Here's a quick look at what you can look forward to over the course of the day:
We can't wait to start the conversation. (But to be clear, where we're going -- we're probably still going to need roads.) (cc: Members of Congress holding up transportation funding). Talk to you tomorrow! The White House Team |

Notations From the Grid: "Thoughts 4 the Week"
Our team decided to share a "compilation of thoughts" for the week which we felt goes to the heart of the how creating and achieving a "Vision of the Possible" is within reach if the commitment is truly there:
“If you compare your relationships, your success,
or your anything against anyone else,
you are not being fair to you.
Everyone has a different path, a different pace,
and different challenges to face along the way.”~ Doe Zantamata
There is no pillow so soft as a clear conscience ~ French Proverb
Good morning and welcome back!
Today is Evaluate Your Life Day.
Evaluate Your Life Day gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect upon our life, where it's been, and where it's going.
Evaluate Your Life Day gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect upon our life, where it's been, and where it's going.
Thus, I find it fitting that today's mentor chat be based on an evaluation tool and mantra from the late/great Steve Jobs:

Notations On Our World: On an Eye On the Future: Solar Decalathalton
Member of our team had a chance to visit and tour the exhibits at Irvine's Great Park providing a true vision of the future. What was different this year that each contenstant had to have an electric car, drive it for 25 miles and then able to charge the car from the solar energy generated. Of all the houses showcased, the one that caught our team's eye was a 120,000 Solution that was done by a team with the Western New England University and universities in Peru and Panama

The leader, though, was an entry from the Stevens Institute of Technology. Team Orange County was also in full force with a very vibrant entry deemed Casa Del Sol which was a collaborative effort between UC Irvine, Champan University and Saddleback College:

What is clear is that the future has arrived and it is here. It was gratifying to see this report from @OC Renewables on their visit to the California ISO and the concerted effort to go "all green" in this endeavor. It is in the end about creating the ultimate "Vision of the Possible":
